In public settings, adherence to proper etiquette and decorum is essential for fostering a harmonious environment. Unfortunately, instances arise where individuals display a lack of civic responsibility, causing inconvenience to others. Recently, an incident shared by a woman has gained widespread attention after it circulated widely on social media platform X.

Identified as Rishika Gupta, a senior software engineer at LinkedIn, the woman recounted a distressing encounter that transpired at a metro station in Delhi. According to her account, she was subjected to an unpleasant incident when a man, allegedly chewing tobacco, spat on her while both were on an escalator.

Detailing the incident in her online post, Gupta expressed her dismay over the man’s behavior, stating that his actions were deeply disrespectful. She shared photographic evidence, including an image of the perpetrator and her soiled jeans, to underscore the severity of the incident.

“The actions of individuals like him reflect a disregard for common decency. While ascending the escalator at the metro station, he deliberately spat on me, demonstrating a blatant lack of respect,” Gupta lamented in her post.

Declining to speculate on the motives behind the man’s behavior, Gupta emphasized the repulsiveness of the act and expressed her hope that others would not encounter similar treatment.

The online community responded with sympathy and support for Gupta, condemning the incident as “disgusting” and urging her to report the matter to the authorities. Some users suggested filing a police report and emphasized the importance of seeking justice in such cases.

Expressing solidarity with Gupta, one user empathized with her ordeal and encouraged her to take legal action: “This is appalling! I sincerely hope you have reported this to the authorities, and appropriate measures will be taken.”

Another user recounted a similar experience and advocated for Gupta to pursue legal recourse, citing the potential availability of CCTV footage as evidence.

In solidarity with Gupta, a third user shared their own distressing experience and expressed disappointment over the lack of intervention by authorities in similar situations.

Moreover, another user highlighted the regulations within Delhi Metro regarding the prohibition of tobacco use, suggesting that security personnel could have been alerted to the incident for further investigation.

Overall, Gupta’s account has sparked a conversation on social media about the importance of upholding civility in public spaces and seeking redress for instances of misconduct.
