New Delhi: BRS leader K Kavitha, apprehended from her residence in Hyderabad by the Enforcement Directorate yesterday evening concerning the Delhi liquor policy case, was transported to the agency’s headquarters in the capital around midnight. She was then transferred to Delhi for further inquiry into the matter.
Upon arrival in Delhi, she underwent medical examinations at the agency’s premises.
Subsequently, the agency presented former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter before the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi this morning, seeking her custody for interrogation.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented around the ED headquarters, with prohibitory orders in place.
Responding to her arrest, Ms Kavitha’s brother and former Telangana minister KT Rama Rao expressed concerns regarding the alleged misuse of power by the BJP government. He emphasized the need for the ED to address the Supreme Court’s concerns, particularly regarding the timing of the arrest when the case is still under judicial review.
In a significant development on Friday, the financial probe agency took Telangana’s Legislative Council Member K Kavitha into custody following a dramatic raid at her Hyderabad premises. This action was part of a money laundering investigation related to the revoked Delhi excise policy.
Ms Kavitha’s arrest sparked protests from her supporters as she was apprehended from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad.
This arrest coincided with the completion of 100 days of the Congress government in the state and also during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malkajgiri, a suburb of Hyderabad, where he conducted a large-scale roadshow.
It’s worth noting that the Supreme Court had granted immunity to the BRS leader from interrogation until Wednesday and had entertained her petition against the agency’s summons on Friday. The next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
Abuse of power and institutional misuse to settle political scores is something that has become increasingly common with BJP Govt in last 10 years
