New Delhi: In a shocking revelation, investigators have exposed alleged malpractices at the Agarwal Medical Centre in south Delhi, where surgeries were purportedly conducted without valid permissions by fake doctors or individuals posing as doctors.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary disclosed to IANS that the operation table in use at the hospital was deemed “second hand and outdated.” Tragically, eight individuals lost their lives during or after surgeries, and one patient reportedly lost her uterus at the medical facility.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team visited the centre to collect evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. The police custody of three accused in the case, including Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, his wife Pooja Agarwal, and Mahender, has been extended for five days.
Last week, the arrests were made based on “sufficient evidence” pointing to planned surgeries by unqualified individuals. Dr. Jaspreet, an individual with an MBBS and MS, was also among those arrested.
A complaint filed on October 10, 2022, alleged that a patient underwent surgery under false pretenses, with unqualified individuals conducting the operation. The patient later succumbed to severe post-surgery complications at Safdarjung Hospital.
Investigations revealed that Dr. Jaspreet Singh was not present during the surgery and had allegedly fabricated documents. Seven complaints were filed with the Delhi Medical Council citing negligence leading to patient deaths.
On October 27, 2023, another patient, Jai Narayan, passed away post-surgery, prompting a Medical Board to identify deficiencies in the medical centre on November 1, 2023.
Further investigations uncovered Dr. Neeraj Agarwal’s alleged use of fake documents and the seizure of 414 prescription slips with signatures of doctors, leaving considerable blank space. Two registers containing details of patients undergoing abortions at the hospital were also seized, along with banned medicines, expired surgical blades, and original prescription slips of different patients.
The unraveling scandal has raised serious concerns about the safety and legality of medical practices at Agarwal Medical Centre, Delhi sparking intensified investigations and public outcry.
