Delhi’s Congress Leader Switches Parties

Chief of the Delhi Congress, Arvinder Singh Lovely, announced his resignation from the party to reporters on April 28 and that he will not be joining any other political organization. Lovely became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on May 4, six days later.

A couple of other Delhi state unit Congress officials were with him. These changes followed expectations. With Lovely rejoining the BJP, the Congress is losing ground in the nation’s capital, which is a good thing. Following its defeats in Delhi in 2013 and the Center in 2014, the Congress has found itself in a political wasteland.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is currently struggling and may need to form an alliance with the Congress in order to compete for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.

However, there are indications that the party may be on the rise. Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP and chief minister of Delhi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, which undoubtedly contributed to the party’s popularity. However, it remains to be seen how much this will help the party during the vote-counting process. At the moment, Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats are all held by the BJP.
