New Delhi: A man was apprehended in Delhi under suspicion of abducting and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl, as reported by the police. Following the alleged abduction, the man purportedly subjected the young girl to several hours of brutal treatment, leaving her body marked with injuries, including bite marks in various locations.

The incident unfolded in the Kotla Mubarakpur locality on May 6, with law enforcement officers rescuing the child approximately 24 hours later.

After the traumatic event, the victim was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention, where she currently remains under treatment. While her physical condition is reported to be stable, she continues to grapple with the psychological impact of the harrowing ordeal. Originating from Nepal, she solely recognizes her mother within her family circle.

The individual in custody has been identified as Arjun, also known as Mohammed Umar, and is suspected of having committed similar egregious acts previously. Allegedly, on the afternoon of May 6, he enticed the girl to his residence located in the poorly illuminated lanes of Andheria Mod. Swift intervention by law enforcement led to the girl’s rescue and the subsequent apprehension of the suspect.

Sources within the police department suggest that the accused displays traits indicative of psychopathic behavior and leads a reclusive lifestyle. Surveillance footage has emerged as pivotal evidence in the ongoing investigation, offering valuable leads for the authorities.

“Through scrutiny of CCTV footage from DTC buses, we were able to identify the suspect. Details of the abducted girl were disseminated via ZIPNET (the police networking system across neighboring states),” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ankit Chauhan. “Umar was apprehended from the slum area of Andheria Mod on Tuesday, leading to the rescue of the girl.”

During interrogation, Umar reportedly admitted to the crime, divulging his motive behind the abduction. “Umar disclosed that he specializes in crafting small glass toys and had ventured to Kotla for sourcing glass materials, where he noticed the girl playing and subsequently abducted her,” elaborated the DCP.
