New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav will reportedly be absent from the INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for Wednesday, according to sources.

The meeting, organized by the Congress, aims to unite opposition leaders ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Nitish Kumar conveyed his decision to skip the meeting, with JDU leaders Rajiv Ranjan and Sanjay Jha set to attend. The Rashtriya Janata Dal, the other half of the Bihar government, is expected to be represented by Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav is likely to send his uncle, Ramgopal Yadav. The absence of prominent leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, raises questions about the unity of the opposition bloc. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, cited prior commitments and lack of awareness about the meeting as reasons for her non-attendance.

There are speculations that the entire Trinamool Congress party may skip the meeting, reflecting discontent within the INDIA bloc exacerbated by the Congress’ recent defeats in state elections.
