New Delhi: Soon after the news of a help-deprived man dying on the street of New Delhi on Wednesday went viral, the Delhi Government has decided to announce scheme under which people-including drivers of taxis and autos will be rewarded for taking victims to a hospital.
Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain said that the government has prepared a draft of the scheme where an incentive will be announced to ensure immediate help to road accident victims in the national capital. The draft will be tabled in the Cabinet by the end of this month and then sent to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for his approval.
Matbool, 40 from West Bengal had died after being hit by an auto rickshaw in Subhash Nagar on Wednesday. He was on his way home around 5.30 am after an overnight shift when the three-wheeler, speeding on the deserted road, rammed him. He hit a pole and collapsed. The driver is seen on camera approaching him but turning away quickly, looking up and down the road, checking his phone and then driving off after making sure that his victim is alive.
In the moments afterwards that stretched to an excruciating 90 minutes, several people are seen walking past the dying man on the road. Then a man stops a rickshaw and walks towards the prone figure. Finally, some help – it appears in the video. Until this man walks right by, picks up Matibool’s mobile phone and returns to the rickshaw. Reportedly, Matbool lay on the road unattended for almost an hour till the police were informed. He was declared dead in a hospital.
