Charmorshi: A tigress was found dead in a farmland situated adjacent to the ghats of Wainganga river, about three kms from Charmorshi city on Wednesday November 12.
Reportedly some farmers had gone to fields near Wainganga River alongside the Chamorshi Markanda road in Chamorshi taluka of the district in the morning hours. They spotted a tigress lying dead near the river bank, informed, deputy conservator, Allapalli Forest Division, Hemant Kumar Meena.
The farmers soon informed the forest officials about it, who rushed to the spot and brought the body to Range Forest office, Chamorshi. The carcass of tigress discovered in the locality also attracted a huge crowd of spectators.
In the preliminary investigations the officials found that the dead tigress was aged between 5 to 6 years while her length measured from head to tail was about 2.5 meter.
While the tigress was wet at the stomach side and below, the foresters are assuming that the feline had reached the locality through Wainganga River from adjoining Saoli Forest Range. Hence, she might belong to Chandrapur forest, officials assumed.
Exact cause of the death would be ascertained only after post mortem is done, Meena said, declining any possibility of the animal being poisoned or killed by giving shock.
The tigress would be cremated after the postmortem is done, he added.
