Lucknow: The family members of Mohd Akhlaq, the man who was lynched in Dadri allegedly for consuming beef, have told Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav that they do not want the probe to continue into the matter while expressing satisfaction over the action taken in the case.
50-year-old Akhlaq was beaten to death and his 22-year- old son Danish critically injured by a 200-strong mob, which barged into their house following rumours that the family had consumed beef. Cow slaughter is banned in UP.
Killing of Akhlaq had stirred the entire nation and on Sunday his kin called on Yadav at his residence and expressed satisfaction over the action taken in the case so far and the compensation of Rs 45 lac extended to them after Akhlaq’s death.
Amidst debate in political circles over the issue, the Union government told Parliament during the current Winter Session that though no inquiry has been initiated by the Home Ministry into the Dadri lynching, a report has been sought from the state government on the incident.
