Mumbai: With just one month to go and the Governor not yet nominating him to the state legislative Council, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray sent a desperate second reminder to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, last evening to nominate him to the Legislative Council so that he can continue as the CM of Maharashtra.

The first reminder was sent to the Governor on April 11.

Thackeray, head of Shiv Sena-NCP- Congress coalition, was sworn-in as the CM after a month-long political drama. The political turn of events had even ended the long-standing friendship between the Sena and the BJP.

After having been sworn-in, Thackeray, as per the rules has to get elected to the legislative assembly or the Council within six months of taking office.

Thackeray, who has never contested an election has now got one month in hand to safeguard his position as CM as his six month period ends on May 28. If he fails to get elected, he will have to quit.

What puts Thackeray in a desperate position is that all elections have now been ruled out due to the lockdown and the only option he now has before him is to have the Governor nominate him to the Council.

However, silence of the Governor, even after two reminders has left the Sena in a state of confusion and the party has already suspected that the BJP is pulling the strings behind the scenes and hence the delay.

The Sena has demanded the Governor not to push the state into constitutional crisis amidst public health emergency, considering the fact that Maharashtra has highest number of COVID-19 cases.

But, Sena’s allies NCP and the Congress say that if there is an election now, winning the polls will be a cakewalk for Thackeray and that the CM is at the mercy of the Governor only due to he corona crisis.
