In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments about Rahul Gandhi’s remarks concerning Indian rulers, the Congress party has accused the BJP leader of distorting Gandhi’s statements for political gain. According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, Modi’s intentions seem to be aimed at stoking communal tensions within the country.
Ramesh emphasized that Modi consistently twists Gandhi’s words to provoke and exploit communal biases. He expressed his views on the matter through a strongly worded statement published in X.
Furthermore, Ramesh suggested that Modi’s recent remarks indicate a sense of desperation, implying that his exit from power is inevitable. He condemned Modi’s campaign speeches as being disgraceful.
The controversy stems from Modi’s speech in Belagavi, Karnataka, where he accused Rahul Gandhi of labeling Indian rulers as oppressors. Modi claimed that Gandhi’s comments, particularly regarding historical figures like Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Kittur Rani Channamma, were disrespectful. Modi criticized Gandhi for allegedly ignoring the atrocities committed by rulers such as nawabs, nizams, and sultans, while focusing solely on criticizing Indian kings and maharajas.
Modi further accused Gandhi of selective historical memory, citing Gandhi’s silence on figures like Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who is known for his destruction of Indian temples. Modi criticized the Congress party for forming alliances with groups that praise figures like Aurangzeb and for allegedly overlooking historical figures responsible for religious persecution and violence.
In a separate rally in Karnataka, Modi warned that those who declined invitations to the Ram Temple event in Ayodhya would face rejection by the Indian electorate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
