New Delhi :  It has been reliably gathered that the Congress was seriously contemplating to drop its plans to hold internal polls on US model to choose candidates for two Lok Sabha Constituencies.

Though Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had announced that  candidates will be chosen through internal polls in Dakshina Kannada and Bangalore North constituencies,  the move has invited opposition from within the party. Many party leaders had even approached Party President Sonia Gandhi to persuade Rahul to drop the plans. There is also information that Congress leaders have mounted pressure on the high command saying internal polls were unnecessary.

They have also apprised Sonia of the fact that internal polls would have an adverse impact on the party.  In view of the development, the party is likely to drop the proposal.

Senior leaders Janardhan Poojari and Jaffer Sharief are strong contenders for party tickets from Dakshina Kannada and Bangalore North constituencies respectively.
