Mumbai : The city of Mumbai celebrated Sri Krishna Janmashtami and the traditional Dahi Handi with great gaiety and fervour. People were heard chanting  hymns and songs in praise of  the most celebrated God  Govinda or Sri Krishna.

Even leaders of prominent political parties like the Congress(I), NCP, Shiva Sene, MNS, RPI joined in the celebrations by arranging for Dahi Handi in their respective areas  and giving away  prizes worth several lakhs of rupees apart from attractive prizes to the groups that emerged successful in breaking the Dahi Handi or curd pots.

In some places organizers even  placed onions in the  pots thereby signifiying their protest to the soaring onion prices. Women too joined in the celebrations in some places  by forming pyramids to break the pots erected atop poles at a geater height.

If kids dressed in colourful costumes of Sri Krishna stole the show,  even  little children dressed as Radha Krishna attracted many through their wonderful dance performances.

In some places Bollywood stars added glitter to the function by taking part in the celebrations.

As usual popular groups like Babu Jenu Mandi Mandal, Daggu Seth Mandal and Hutatma Babu Mandal celebrated the Dahi Handi  festival with great  fervour.
