Clerk’s house raided; Rs 7L cash, Rs 60L worth assets unearthed

Neemuch (MP): Following a raid by the Lokayukta Police in the residence of an Assistant Grade-II clerk, posted at the Collectorate office here, a huge amount of wealth, including assets over Rs 60 lakh and Rs 7 lakh cash, highly disproportionate to his known sources of income was unearthed.

Lokayukta Police sleuths who are said to have acted on a tip-off, raided the house of Narendra Gangwal and recovered jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh, papers of land worth Rs 55 lakh, 20 foreign watches, five Iphones and details of a bank locker (documents), beside Rs 7 lakh cash.

All of this was hidden beneath a bed, Lokayukta Inspector Basant Shrivastava said.

He also added that the raid was conducted at a time when Gangwal was planning to leave for Goa on a vacation. Raids were also conducted simultaneously at his residence in Neemuch and Mandsaur districts.

It has been reported that Gangwal had taken loans from various banks, amounting to Rs 10 lakh.

Two kgs silver and 250 gram gold ornaments were recovered from the bank locker, the officer said, adding that Gangwal also owned a car.

In Mandaur, team of Lokayukta Police recovered ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh and documents related to bank accounts and a locker, which will be opened later. Further investigations in the matter are on, he added.
