Chhattisgarh: On July 18, a group of men carried out a unique protest in Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. Their demonstration was against the alleged issuance of fake certificates for government jobs in the state. Strikingly, the protesters chose to march nude towards the state assembly to draw attention to their cause, but they were apprehended by the police.
According to one of the protesters leading the march, they had previously resorted to a hunger strike to address the issue of fake certificates. Apparently, around 264 individuals had secured government jobs using fake certificates meant for Scheduled Tribes/Scheduled Castes (ST/SC). The protesters demanded that these individuals be identified and punished for their actions.
Their frustration with the lack of response from the authorities despite several months of raising the issue led them to opt for this daring nude march towards the state assembly. It was revealed that the participants in the march were from SC/ST communities, and they intended to garner attention from both the government and the media during the ongoing assembly session in Naya Raipur.
However, the Chhattisgarh police intervened and took the protesters into custody as they marched towards the state legislative assembly. The police stated that the reason for the detention was their obscene manner of demonstration.
The public was stunned by the sight of these naked men marching and chanting slogans on the streets, leading to the creation of videos that were widely shared on social media, quickly gaining nationwide attention. Amidst the ongoing monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Vidhansabha, Amit Malviya, the in-charge of the BJP IT cell, also tweeted the video, accusing the Congress and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of deceiving the SC/ST society.
It is important to note that Chhattisgarh is due for assembly elections later this year, and while the demand to take action against those with fake caste certificates is not new, this particular protest marks the first time such an event has taken place in the state.
