Bulandshahr: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders of Bulandshahr had sought the transfer of the police inspector who was killed during a mob violence. BJP members had accused the cop of hurting the Hindu religious sentiments. On September 1, the party officials had written to Bulandshahr MP Bhola Singh stating that Subodh Kumar Singh was creating hurdles for Hindu religious functions thus triggering anger in the community.

The letter was signed by six BJP members, including former corporator Manoj Tyagi and local block Pramukh Pramendra Yadav. The party’s city general secretary Sanjay Shrotiya confirmed the issue. The letter also stated that the Station House Officer (SHO) was not serious in tackling cow theft and slaughter cases, and so he and other police officers should be transferred immediately and departmental action be taken against them.

Singh was shot dead during a mob violence in Syana tehsil of Bulandshahr when he was trying to control the violent crowd. Shikhar Agarwal, a member of the BJP youth wing, who has been booked for the murder and violence along with 89 others, had released a video on Thursday, December 7 morning in which he had claimed that the SHO had threatened to kill him during the violence. Agarwal also accused Singh of hurting Hindu sentiments by joining hands with the Muslim community.

Singh was the investigating officer in the Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case, and his family has alleged a conspiracy in his death.
