New Delhi: The BJP strongly slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments regarding Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. They accused Gandhi of stooping to a “new low” by disrespecting Aishwarya Rai and suggested that his remarks stemmed from a “dangerous and creepy obsession with successful and self-made women.”
The controversy emerged from Gandhi’s statements during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Uttar Pradesh, where he took aim at the BJP, particularly criticizing the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Gandhi claimed that the ceremony, attended by various Bollywood celebrities and billionaires, lacked representation from marginalized communities like OBCs, Dalits, and tribals, who constitute a significant portion of India’s population.
The BJP’s Karnataka state unit released a statement condemning Gandhi’s remarks, alleging that he resorted to insulting Aishwarya Rai due to frustration from being rejected by Indians. They highlighted Gandhi’s lack of personal achievements compared to Aishwarya Rai’s contributions to India’s reputation.
The BJP also questioned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s silence on Gandhi’s comments, urging him to speak out against the disrespect shown towards a fellow Kannadiga.
Singer Sona Mohapatra also criticized Gandhi’s remarks, labeling them as “demeaning” and condemning the trend of politicians exploiting women for political gain. She urged Gandhi to refrain from such behavior and acknowledged Aishwarya Rai’s talent and grace.
The inauguration of the Ram Temple was overseen by PM Modi and witnessed the presence of numerous celebrities.
