New Delhi: Taking a cue from Uttar Pradesh, four more BJP-ruled states have pulled down the shutters on illegal meat shops.
Rajasthan, Madhya PRadesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh have started acting against the illegal meat shops and as per reports three meat shops were sealed in Haridwar, 11 were shut in Raipur and one in Indore. Apart from this, around 4,000 illegal shops faced closure in Jaipur with the civic corporation announcing its crackdown on such shops and slaughterhouses from April. However, even as the government claims that the meat houses shut down were all illegal, the meat sellers say that out of the 4,000 shops, at least 980 were authorised shops, but the Corporation did not renew the license after March 31.
It is said that inspired by the shutdown in UP, Shiv Sainiks in Haryana forced to close down 500 meat and chicken shops. The Shiv Sainiks did not spare even the international brand KFC in old Gurugram area and stated that the shops will remain shut for nine days-till Navaratris are over.
