Agartala: Tripura minister Manoj Kanti Deb was caught on camera while groping a woman ministerial colleague during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Agartala.
The video surfaced on the social media showing Manoj Kanti Deb, Food, Youth Affairs and Sports minister of Tripura putting his hand around the waist of Social Welfare and Social Education Minister, Santana Chakma, in an indecent manner while sharing the stage with the PM Modi and the Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, on Saturday, February 9.
The video clearly shows Santana Chakma pushing away the minister’s hand.
The opposition parties in Tripura have demanded to sack the minister for touching a woman colleague indecently and inappropriately.
However, the BJP hit out at the opposition saying that they are trying to malign the character of their minister and raking up false and non-issue matters.
According to sources, some tribal-based parties are also planning a protest demanding the resignation and arrest of Manoj Kanti Deb.
Reportedly, Manoj Kanti Deb did not comment anything on the issue when contacted by the IANS on phone, for his response.
BJP spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the Left Front, after raking up non-issues against the BJP government, has now “started character assassination of BJP ministers on false and non-issue matters”.
Bhattacharjee said that the Left wing is unnecessarily raising the issue. “The woman minister has not made a complaint or statement regarding the incident so far,” he added.
