New Delhi: Anil Kumar Sinha, an IPS officer of 1979 batch (Bihar Cadre), has been appointed as the new director of the country’s premier investigating agency, CBI. He will take over from Mr Ranjit Sinha who retired on Tuesday.

Mr Sinha was the special director, the second in command at the agency. His name was among the short-listed candidates chosen after a meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu and leader of the main Opposition in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
