Kashmir: History was scripted in Kashmir valley on Wednesday with the Baramulla district being officially declared as a ‘militant-free’ district. With the killing of the last three surviving militants of the district in Binner village on Wednesday, the officials declared that the district has no surviving militants in the valley.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that he expected further consolidation of peace-building efforts together by the police and the public.
“Kashmir needs peace so that its people could have its dividends for better tomorrow”, the spokesman is quoted as saying by DNA.
The militants slain in Binner are identified as Suhaib Farooq Akhoon, Mohsin Mushtaq and Nasir Ahmad Darzi, all belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Arms and ammunition, including three AK 47 rifles were recovered from the encounter site. All these materials have been taken in case records for further investigation and probe their complicity in other terror cases.
