Babri demolition case: Court acquits all acccused

New Delhi: All the 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, including former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former union ministers Murali Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharati and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh have been aquitted by the Special CBI court, on September 30.

Judge Surendra Kumar Yadav has delivered his verdict in the Babri Masjid demolition case 28 years after the 16th century structure was razed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya town.

BJP veterans LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh and Mahant Nrityagopal Das remained absent from the court, while 26 of the accused were present in the CBI court on Wednesday.

 

The Judge, while reading the verdict said there was no conspiracy in the act and it happened in spur of the moment.

The CBI court has also stated that the accused persons were infact trying to save the Babri structure from being demolished and observed that the evidence was tampered with.

It has also given clean-chit to the Vishwa Hindu Prishad (VHP) and added that “unknown people threw stones from the back”.

The 32 accused face charges under several sections of the IPC, including criminal conspiracy, rioting , promoting enmity between different groups and unlawful assembly.

During the trial, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced 351 witnesses and 600 documents as evidence before the CBI court. The court had initially framed charges against 49 accused; 17 accused have died.
