New Delhi: The Union Cabinet approved the proposal to set up ‘Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh’, on Thursday. It has been decided that it will be established in Relli village of Vizianagaram District. This university will be set up after a proper amendment of the Central Universities Act, said statements from Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Prior to this statement by the government, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet alleged inaction by the centre and also cleared three major proposals which included the setting up of a steel plant in Kadapa district of the state, the metro rail in Visakhapatnam under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and alloting close to 2,400 acres of land to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) so that it can be developed into a mega industrial park in Prakasam district.
Previously, centre had withdrawn its decision to establish a steel plant in Kadapa claiming it to be financially unviable.
This led to the Chief Minister of the state, Chandrababu Naidu, repeatedly claiming that the centre has been unfair to the state and that it was meting out injustice and he also pointed out that the centre had failed on its promise of granting the state Special Category Status (SCS) when the state was bifurcated.
