New Delhi: After Delhi’s Patiala House Court postponed the hanging of the Nirbhaya convicts, a distressed Asha Devi, the mother of the victim reportedly broke down outside.

This is the second time that the convicts’ hanging has been postponed. The four men, who were convicted of the gangrape, torture and murder of a 23-year-old woman, were first scheduled to hang on January 22 this year. This was postponed to February 1 after one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh filed a mercy petition.

Outside the courthouse, Asha Devi told reporters that the convicts’ lawyer, A P Singh bragged in open court, that his clients’ hanging will “never happen”.

“I want everyone to hear… I want Delhi government to listen… I want the Central Government to listen… the courts and the government are bowing their heads before there criminals,” said a distressed Asha Devi, and swore that she would continue to fight for justice and would not stop till her daughter’s violators are hanged.

In an ongoing bid to delay their hanging, the convicts have been filing a slew of petitions. The court, today, said that they will not be hanged till further notice.
