Cyclone Michaung:”The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding a developing depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. Moving at a speed of 9 kmph in the past six hours, as of 11 pm on December 1, the depression’s center was located at Latitude 10.3°N and Longitude 85.3°E, approximately 630 km east-southeast of Puducherry.”
“As per the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, the storm is currently positioned 630 km east-southeast of Chennai, 740 km southeast of Nellore, 810 km southeast of Bapatla, and 800 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam. The system is projected to maintain its west-northwestward movement, expected to intensify into a Deep Depression within the next 12 hours and further evolve into Cyclonic Storm ‘Michaung’ over the Southwest Bay of Bengal by December 3.”
“Forecasts suggest that the cyclonic disturbance will shift northwestwards, approaching the vicinity of south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by the forenoon of December 4. The system is expected to progress nearly northwards, tracking parallel and in proximity to the south Andhra Pradesh coast. A projected landfall is anticipated between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of December 5. During this time, the Cyclonic Storm is predicted to exhibit a maximum sustained wind speed ranging from 80-90 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 100 kmph.”
“Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin convened a review meeting on Friday with 12 district administration heads to discuss the potential impact of heavy rainfall expected in various districts over the next 2-3 days. During the meeting, Stalin provided guidelines and directed officials to implement precautionary measures, including the evacuation of residents from areas identified as vulnerable to the approaching cyclone.”
