Jammu: The Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for the second day on Sunday as no pilgrim was allowed to move from Jammu to Kashmir Valley, officials said.

“No yatri will be allowed to move from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu to the Kashmir Valley on Sunday due to the prevailing law and order situation there. Although the passage of yatris from Jammu to the valley was disallowed due to security reasons, those who had already reached the yatra base camps of Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam), continued the yatra on Saturday,” a senior police officer said here.
Meanwhile, authorities on Sunday suspended mobile internet services in the entire Jammu region to check spread of rumours following heightened tensions in the Kashmir Valley.
“There is complete peace in the entire Jammu region. Mobile internet services have been suspended as a precautionary measure. Internet services are, however, functioning on fixed broadband lines,” the police officer said.
Mobile Internet services were suspended in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday after the death of top Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Saturday and no pilgrim was allowed to move from Jammu city following the unrest in the Kashmir Valley over the killing of the top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, but over 15,000 pilgrims already at the shrine had ‘darshan’.
“On the 8th day of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2016, 15,684 Yatris paid obeisance at the Holy Cave,” said an official statement issued in Srinagar.
“Till date 1,18,747 Yatris had ‘Darshan’ of the Ice Lingam at the Holy Cave,” it added.
