Jaipur: A senior IAS officer of Rajasthan hailing from SC community embraced Islam citing ‘victimisation’ as the reason behind his move and also applied for Voluntary Retirement from Service (VRS) in protest againstg the extension of tenure awarded to Chief Secretary C S Rajan by the Raje Government.

Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation Chairman Umrao Salodiya, the officer in question has said that despite being the Chairman of RSRTC and Additional Chief Secretary for the last over four years, he is competent for the post of Chief Secretary but the present CS is given 3 months extension by the state government. Since the present CS is his junior, he said that he cannot work under him and opted for a VRS.

However, citing several personal experiences where he felt that he was victimised on the basis of caste, he said that he had embraced Islam and hence he will be known as Umrao Khan.

“Being a Hindu and SC member, I was always victimised, hence I converted my religion to Muslim by reading “Kalma” in a masjid but members of my family have not changed religion,” he said.

When asked whether he has any plan for re-marriage with any Muslim woman/girl, he said, “No way. I have my family. I feel happy now, satisfied that I protested against victimisation”.
