Mumbai: In a special project to empower the physically challenged, Akhil Bhartiya Terapanth Mahila Mandal (ABTMM) under the auspices of Shreejain Swetambar Terapanth Mahila Mandal, Mumbai Branch donated free wheelchairs to the needy at CST station in Mumbai.
The wheelchairs were handed over by Mayor, Sunil Prabhu and Shaina NC, the first women Treasurer of BJP in Maharashtra.
This initiative has been taken for the welfare of the handicapped who cannot afford wheelchairs. The program is also planned to be carried out nationally over the span of one year. Mumbai was selected as the first center to kick start this initiative which would then be moved to other cities across the country.
On the occasion Kanta Tated, president of Shreejain Swetambar Terapanth Mahila Mandal, Mumbai Branch said “The objective of this initiative is to empower the handicapped, by allowing then to become self sufficient and limit their dependency on others. We are extremely humbled by the response we have received in the past few days and hence we plan to continue this activity all across India and try and reach out to as many people who can benefit from our efforts.”
ABTMM was established in the year 1966 under the noble guidance of Acharya shri Tulsi for the holistic development of women. MAHAMANDAL was the-then name of this organization with its central office at Ladnun. Later on 16thJune 1982, this organization was registered as an NGO (Non-Government Organization) andhas been operational as one under their present nomenclature – ABTMM.
ABTMM is an NGO that works toward the holistic development for women. ABTMM has provided scholarships for over 1600 girls throughout the country through its branches. 188 girls are supported by ABTMM within LADNUN, Rajasthan alone. The vision for ABTMM is to create a society that is void of crimes like dowry, female feticides, exploitation of women and building a developed space for all to survive in harmony.
ABTMM encourages 4 Development Programs, those are:
KANYA SURAKSHA YOJANA – Save Girl Child and Uncha Pad-Uncha Kad are 2 movements operative within the above mentioned program.
AAO CHALE GAAON KI ORE (Rural Development Program)
HEALTHY FAMILY – HEALTHY SOCIETY PROGRAM (Swasth Pariwar – Swasth Samaj)
ACHARYA TULSI SHIKSHA PARIYOJANA (Education) – Free schools and scholarship programs are run within this scheme.
