8th Century Mosque in Kottayam opens doors for women, with conditions applied!

Kottayam: In a historic move, an 8th century mosque in Kerala opened its doors for women and with this significant move, all the women from the community can now enter the Thazhathangady Juma mosque in Kottayam. However, there are conditions applied. The relaxation has been made only for two days, as decided by the Masjid Committee, for women who are in right attire.

Moulauddeen Sirajjuddeen Hasni, the Chief Imam clarifies that the Women will be allowed on April 24 and May 8 and that the right to enter does not mean right to pray.

The committee had to convince the men that the entry of women into the Masjid will not clash with the timing of the customary namaz during both the days.

However, it is said that there are many within the community who are extremely unhappy with the decision.

One of the oldest mosques in India, Thazhathangady Juma mosque is a tourist attraction famous for its architecture, but surprisingly, the women from the Muslim community who have never ever had a glimpse of the mosque inside.
