Punjab: Six died on Saturday April 24 at a private hospital in Amritsar due to a lack of oxygen. Hospital authorities confirmed that five out of the six patients were tested positive for Covid.

“Despite repeated requests for assistance from the district administration, no one showed up to help,” said Sunil Devgan, chairman and managing director of Neelkant Hospital.

Just five oxygen cylinders were delivered to the hospital after patients died, added Sunil. He said that “three major oxygen suppliers have confirmed that government hospitals are being prioritised for oxygen supply.”

A large police force has been stationed outside the oxygen units to prevent oxygen from being sent to private hospitals.
