5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Andaman Islands; no casualties

Port Blair: A moderate intensity earthquake of 5.4 magnitude hit Andaman Islands on Friday afternoon, a week after a massive earthquake devastated Nepal with tremors felt across India.

The epicentre of the quake is 135 km southwest of Port Blair. The tremors were felt at 2:28 PM. No loss of life or property was immediately reported.

Met Director GL Gautam said, “We are monitoring the quake in Andamans. The quake was not that strong that it can cause any damage.”

The Indian subcontinent recorded two more earthquakes on Saturday. The first one was once again in Nepal where a 3.8 magnitude temblor was recorded with its epicentre 14 km west southwest of Panaoti.

The second one took place in Tuensang in Nagaland. The earthquake’s magnitude was 4.8 and the epicentre was 5 km south southwest of Tuensang.
