Chennai: The city witnessed moderate rainfall on Wednesday, on the beginning of Year 2020.
Due to the sudden rainfall, some of them have expressed happiness hoping that the city receives more rains and escapes the water crisis, as several parts of Tamil Nadu had experienced one of the worst water crisis in history, late year.
However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rains to continue till January 4.
According to the IMD reports, in the last 24 hours, Kollidam in Nagappattinam and Periya Kalapet in Puducherry have received maximum rainfall, measuring upto nine centimeters.
Normally, the northeast monsoon which hits Tamil Nadu every year begins in October and end in December. But this time, it has continued even in January.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted rains in the next 24 hours, in Karnataka.
