Mangaluru: The department of dietetics and nutrition organised “National Nutrition Week” in the hospital from September 1st to 5th 2015.

On September 1, the inauguration ceremony was held in the hospital conference hall. Dr E.V.S Maben, HOD, Department of General Medicine of A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony.

Dr Prashanth Marla, Medical Director A.J.Hospital and Research Centre graced the ceremony and shared his knowledge about Diet and lifestyle diseases. The doctors and staffs of the hospital were present for the occasion.

As part of the nutrition week the dietetics and nutrition Department for the first time organised a CNE (Continuing Nutrition education Programme) for Students and practicing Dieticians from in and around Mangalore.

Guest speakers for the conference were Mrs Hema Arvind, Chief Dietitian from M.S Ramaiah Hospital, Bangalore; Mrs Meenakshi Garg and Mrs Pallavi G Shettigar, HOD and Assistant Professor respectively of MSc Dietetics and Applied Nutrition Department, Manipal University. Among the speakers was Dr Ganesh H K, Consultant Endocrinologist and Dr Kamalaksha Shenoy, Consultant Radiation Oncologist of our Hospital.

Ms Chhaya K delivered the Welcome note. A total of 150 delegates attended the conference. Other activities during the week included competitions for the Hospital staff and a workshop on Child Nutrition for Anganwadi workers.
