Mangaluru: The members of the Karangalpady ward celebrated the International Womens’ Day on March 8 at 6 pm, at Alban Rodrigues’s House.

Alban Rodrigues welcomed the gathering and speaking about the importance of such a celebration said, “Women are equal to men but, for some reason, women haven’t received equal treatment for a long time”.

A short prayer service was held by Irene D’Souza and the rest of the programme continued.

Celectine Vas was the Chief Guest of the occasion and in her address to the gathering spoke about the important role of women in the society and family. “We women play so many roles in a family. Today, we must appreciate ourselves for our efforts. Our various roles keep us busy and it can prevent us from giving time to ourselves on most days. Added to that, we are often underappreciated. Each woman should set aside at least an hour for herself,” she said.

All the women gathered took part in the games and shared in each other’s joy by cutting a cake. The ward members Rishel D’Souza and Kripa D’Sa conducted the games.
A total of 19 members attended the programme.

Mrs. Adelaide D’Sa proposed the vote of thanks and Joseph Alexander compered the programme.
