‘Media’s responsibility is important in building healthy society’

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner (In-Charge) and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kumar has said that the responsibility of media is crucial in building a healthy society.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 73rd Foundation Day celebrations of The Federation of Indian Working Journalists (IWFJ) at Press Club here on Saturday October 29.

The media, which is ranked as the fourth pillar in a Democracy, has an important responsibility to correct society. Journalism, which is an important part of society, needs to maintain the sanctity of its profession. The pen is sharper than the sword. The profession of journalism requires studyability. Our inner freedom should not be mortgaged during the exercise of freedom of expression, he said.

Dr. Kumar praised the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association for setting an example through a lot of initiatives such as the Awareness Campaign against plastic etc.

National Council of the Federation of Working Journalists of India Member P. B. Harish Rai and Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association State Executive Committee member Jagannath Shetty Bala were the Chief Guests.

Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association President Shrinivas Nayak Indaje presided over the function. Senior Journalist Manohar Prasad delivered a lecture on Contemporary Journalism at the function.

Vijay Kotian Padu, office-bearers of the Association, compered the programme. Pushpa Raj B. N. proposed the vote of thanks. Press Club President Annu Mangaluru, Press Club Trust President Ramakrishna, Journalists’ Association Vice-president Bhaskar Rai and others were present.
