Goldsmiths appraise Union Min Chandrasekhar on woes due to BSI hallmark

Mangaluru: The members of Dakshina Kannada Gold Workers Association and the Gold and Silver Workers Union of the Daivajyana Brahmin have met the Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on woes due to BSI hallmark.

In a conversation programme held here on Thursday August 19, Arun G Shet, a jewellery trader and member of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said, “When the piece of jewellery is taken to the hallmark centre, they will cut the jewellery and put it into the acid test manually. The small traders and gold workers cannot sell those broken items further, eventually, they are facing losses due to this,” he added.

He said, already the pandemic has hit the people hard. Many of the small traders and gold workers are in distress. So he appealed to the government to take necessary actions in this regard.
