
Mangaluru: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) Organised “Women’s Day” on Sunday, March 3, at the Bishop’s House, Kodialbail.
The programme began at 9 AM with a prayer song by members.
Rt. Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru, Rolphy D’costa, President of Catholic Sabha, Philomena Lobo Rtd. Director of Public Institution, Secondary Education Dept, Govt. of Karnataka, Dr.Prabha Adhikari, Prof.Yenopoya Medical College, Victor Rosario Corea Rtd soldier from the Armed Forces, Celestine D’Souza, General Secretary, Treasurer Vivid D’Souza, Ex-President Flavy Dsouza, Convenor Ida Furtado, Co-Convenor Noreen Pinto and 11 Varado Women representative were on the dais.
Ida Furtado welcomed the guests and gathering.
Rt. Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated the function and invoked God’s blessings for the success of the programme.
His message to the women is to educate their children on National interest in joining our defence and Government section.
“Ladies should first learn to make use of all the opportunities in the society”, he said.
A tribute was paid to the brave soldiers of our land who sacrificed their lives for our country. Rev. Bishop offered prayers on behalf of all those present.
Victor Rosario Corea expressed sympathies and prayers for the martyrs.
Rolphy D’Costa, Catholic Sabha President gave his introductory speech and praised women for their hard and sincere work. He also said that as a token of appreciation this Women’s Day was organized by Catholic Sabha.
Vivid D’Souza introduced Amleen D’Souza and Agnes Saldanha to the audience.
Rev. Bishop honoured both these young women and wished them success in their future.
Celestine D’Souza introduced Philomena Lobo to the audience.
Lobo briefed the women about the challenges faced by her to reach this high and how education can change our lives. She also asked the women to make use of various schemes offered by the government for women.
Amlin spoke a few words and praised Catholic Sabha by saying, “My participation in the elocution competitions gave me the courage and strength to face my future”.
She requested all the ladies to work together to build a healthy and peaceful society.
Flavy D’Souza introduced Dr. Prabha Adhikari, Resource person who spoke on the “Women’s health issues”.
The audience was very attentive and had a number of questions. Dr Prabha cleared all their doubts.
Members from various units presented their skills with songs, dance and entertainment. Spot games were conducted and gifts were distributed to the winners.
Thanksgiving mass was offered by Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha.
In his message, he called upon all women to give good families to society and to bring up their families, with social values.
David Dsouza, Vice President thanked Fr. Aquin Noronha for sparing his precious time for us and also praying for the future of our children.
Dr Theresa Pereira was the master of ceremonies for the day.
