Yenepoya Nursing College celebrates International Nurse’s day 2015

Mangaluru: Yenepoya Nursing College a constituent college of Yenepoya University in collaboration with Yenepoya institute of nursing sciences and the department of nursing services of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital celebrated international nurse’s day in the Academic Block of Yenepoya university on 12th May 2015.

The chief guest for the function was Rev. Sr. Jacintha D’Souza, Principal, Athena College of Nursing, Mangalore. Dr P Chandramohan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University, Mangalore presided over the function. The other dignitaries present were Prof. KP Jayarajan, Controller of examination, Yenepoya University, Mangalore, Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College, Mrs. Manjusha AP, Principal, Yenepoya Institute of nursing sciences, Mrs. Bhanumathi, Nursing superintendent, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangalore, Deans of other colleges of Yenepoya university, HOD’s of various departments, Faculty and students.

The program began with the invocation and lighting of the lamp. Mrs. Bhanumathi, Nursing superintendent welcomed the gathering. The significance of the day was highlighted by Prof. Devina Rodrigues. HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, Yenepoya Nursing College. The chief guest Rev. Sr. Jacintha D’Souza, Principal, Athena College of Nursing, Mangalore delivered the key note address for the day. She stressed on change that is essential in patient care and “it is essential to have positive attitude, one need to be ready to accept the limitations to accept the change” she said.

On account of the day, a competition was conducted at Yenepoya Medical College hospital for ideal ward set up. The hand book on revised regulations and ordinances as well as brochure on short term course “Post Graduate Certificate Course in Scrub Nursing“were released by the Vice Chancellor. In his presidential address, he highlighted the life history of Florence Nightingale and her legacy in the field of nursing. He also asks the nurses to follow the footsteps of Florence Nightingale and deliver selfless service to the mankind. He said that the nursing fraternity must make some wise changes in their professional level and also to educate the people on how to get cost effective quality care.

The program wound up with a quiz competition for the students followed by an entertainment program which was enjoyed by all.
