Mangaluru: Keshava Shishumandira Kulai and Gopalakrishna Bajana Mandali, Vidyanagara, Kulai in association with department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, St Aloysius College organised an awareness program on ‘Summer Vanamahotsava’ and drawing competition at Gopalakrishna Bajana Mandali, Kulai on April 3, 2016.
The event focused on creating awareness among the children about the need to protect environment and building their surroundings green. The need of the hour is to imbibe the importance of having the green surroundings in the young minds such that they inculcate this and preserve their environment.
“The increasing temperature in the city is an alarm to get ready for a bigger disaster. It’s time to teach young minds about the value of the trees,” said Prof P Krishnamurthy, Vice Principal and HOD of Kannada Department, Govindadasa First Grade College, Surathkal.
The event included planting saplings by the children and their parents. The President of the event Umesh Chandra Kotian planted the saplings along with the children in the Keshava Shishumandira premises .They also took an oath to protect their saplings and water them regularly.
As part of creating awareness to young minds, drawing competition was held, in which children took part from nearby by places enthusiastically. Venesha, a participant through her drawing illustrated KIOCL and the environmental effects of it . Every painting displayed the necessity to save trees. This in turn depicted that we are all aware of the environmental degradation taking place in and around us. The first place was bagged by Dhanyashree, second by Nireekshith and third by Lochana.
Addressing the young children Umesh Chandra Kotian , President, Keshava Shishumandira, Kulai and Gopalakrishna Bajana Mandali , Vidyanagara, Kulai said, “The students should not only learn from the books or draw on paper but take the lessons practically and make their surroundings a better place to live. Vanamahotsava isn’t limited only to June 5th instead it’s our duty to nurture our environment every day.”
Industrialization has taken over the minds of all budding citizens thus this event helped to create an impact on the significance of greenery to young minds. By taking such initiatives by all the citizens we could make our earth a better place to dwell in.
