Mangaluru: The 18th Annual General Body Meeting of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of St Theresa’s School, Bendur was held on June 21 at St Sebastian’s Platinum Jubilee Hall at 3 PM.
Addressing the gathering, Sr Mariette BS- chairperson, secretary of Bethany Educational Society and Correspondent of the school said, “We have to spend quality time with our children to make them feel loved by listening to their fears, struggles confusions etc.” She also said that at least 5 percent of the students should become scientists, MLAs, MPs, PMs and Presidents. She insisted that the student must expand the horizon and get into civil society.
Dr Fr Arun Lobo, the resource person, stressed on the ‘Z’ generation students who belong to the technology generation. “They demand appreciation from social media, so they spend hours on Instagram. Instead, we as parents need to appreciate and make them feel loved. Children are keen observers but lousy interpreters,” he said.
The top scorers of the ICSE exams from std X, who scored 90 percent and above, and the subject-wise toppers were feted and awarded mementoes. The principal and teachers of std X, whose students scored 100 marks in their subjects were also felicitated.
Following this, the overall topper, Sanjana Kamath expressed her gratitude to the almighty, the management and school.
The minutes of the meeting with the activities conducted during the year 2018-19 was read out by Veena Saldanha, the PTA secretary. Jenevive Sima D’Souza, the treasurer presented the audited statement of accounts.
Laveena was appointed the auditor of the school for the year 2019-20. The election of the executive members of the PTA for the year 2019-20 was conducted by Sangeeta Vaz, Savitha Albuquerque and Gwen Rodrigues. Sr Mariette BS confirmed the names of the newly elected members.
The meeting concluded at 5.30 PM with the school anthem.
The programme was compeered by Sonia Peris. Principal and president of the PTA, Sr Philomene Saldanha welcomed the gathering and thanked the PTA members for their co-operation and support.
Sr Anita Shanti the Superior of Bethany Mother House, Nynette Tellis the vice president of the PTA, Marian Saldanha the joint secretary of the PTA and the parents of the students of classes LKG to 10th were also present.
