Mangaluru: The St. Aloysius B Ed College, a leading institute of education and training in the city conducted a two-day district level workshop for teachers on the topic “Beyond General Intelligence” on the 1 and 2 February under the objective of developing one’s own awareness about emotional make up to deal with students and others.
Fr. Eric Mathias SJ, Director of the college welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of emotional intelligence for teachers in handling their students in curricular and co-curricular aspects in the school.
Fr. Denzil Lobo SJ, Secretary, MJES was the president of the inaugural function. In his address, he said, “We all live in our egosystem; it is how we have grown up; it is how the world operates. But as we begin to have a deeper understanding of ourselves and others, we become emotionally literate. Emotional literacy allows us to know the wholeness.” He also urged on implementing emotional intelligence in the education system to make students and teachers whole and healthy human beings, so that a more loving, caring and inclusive world is created.
Fr. Dr. Anthony Raj SJ, Principal, Loyola College of Education, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, was the resource person. He conducted sessions on topics like, Miracle of Human Child, Neuroplasticity, Preferred Learning Styles, Into the World of IQ and Handling Emotional Brain.
Joshna B, Convener of the workshop, introduced the resource person. Lecturer Santhosh Furtado compered the programme. Teachers from various schools and colleges participated in the workshop.
