Moodabidri: Indian Speed Star-Season 2, presented by GAIL and National Yuva Co-operative Society South India selection rounds held at Swaraj Maidan, Moodabidri on January 30 and 31 had 19 athletes making it to the next level. Out of the selected few, six are from Karnataka.
The event is held with the intention of honing the budding athletes with potential to become successful in the international tournaments in the near future. NYCS and GAIL (India) Limited have together embarked on a grassroots athletics program GAIL-Indian Speed star which is aimed at unearthing young talent across the length and breadth of India. NYCS GAIL-Indian Speed star will identity and nurture talent in track events (100m, 200m and 400m) between the age group of 11 to 17 years, furthering them through access to coaching, foreign training, physiotherapy, mental conditioning and other support services.
In the 17-year catergory- 400 mts Rins Joseph (Karnataka), Ansoon (Kerala, Mahantesh (Karnataka), Raghul Kumar (Tamil Nadu), Sayuj (Kerala), Abhishek Mathew (Kerala), Rithin Ali (Kerala), Navneeth (Tamil Nadu) have made it.
R C Ganesh (Tamil Nadu), Fadeeh (Kerala) were selected in 200 mts boys’ category. Abhinav C (Kerala) and Vallabh Patel from (Karnataka) were selected in the 100 mts category.
In 14 years Girls’ categort (400 mts), Deepashree (Karnataka), Vikashini (Tamil Nadu) made it to the next level followed by Jyothsna Simone (Karnataka, Aparna Roy (Kerala) in 100 mts 17 years girls’ category.
Roshni (Kerala), Bhoomika (Karnataka), Sofia Sunny (Kerala) were selected in 400 mts.
A total of 800 athletes from six states of south India took part. Out of the six athletes selected from Karnataka, five are the proud students of Alva’s Institutions Moodabidri.
