
Mangaluru: “The Nurses Week” celebration organised by Father Mullers School and College of Nursing (A unit of Father Muller Medical College Hospital) on the occasion of International Nurses Day concluded with the valedictory function held at the FMCI Academic Hall on May 11.
Bishop of Mangaluru and President of FMCI Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the valedictory event by garlanding portraits of Fr. Augustus Muller and Florence Nightingale. FMCI Director Fr. Richard Coelho, Administrator of FMMCH, Fr. Rudolf Ravi D’Sa, Principal of Father Muller College of Nursing Sr. Jacintha D’Souza and Chief Nursing Officer Sr. Janet were present.
Senior faculty member at the Father Muller School of Nursing Sr. Loredana Korah was felicitated by the Bishop and other dignitaries for her tireless service for nursing education. Darryl Aranha read the citation in honour of Sr. Korah.
Speaking on the occasion, Sr. Korah said, “Head (Knowledge), Hands (Care) and Heart (Compassion) are most important to a nurse. If nurses put in all these together, they will be able to give good service to the patients. The core strength of nursing is care and compassion towards their patients.”
In his keynote speech, Fr. Richard Coelho appreciated the service rendered by the nurses of the institution. “Being nurses, there are 3 important things to be proud of. Firstly, in the healthcare sector, nursing professionals are the largest group in the world. Secondly, Father Muller College and School of Nursing’s education is the best in the world. Thirdly, nursing service rendered by the Father Muller’s Institutions nurses is the best in general hospital sector in India. Be proud for that and continue serving with zeal”, he urged.
Addressing the gathering, Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza said, “This is our hospital and therefore you are our nurses. We appreciate and thank your relentless service. Patients come to FMCI because they like your service – the good nursing care they get here.”
Remembering Florence Nightingale, the Bishop said, “She transformed this noble profession to be compassion for the people. You should emulate her example and continue giving the best medical service for all.”
