
Udupi: Department of English, Milagres College, Kallianpur organized an interactive session on “HIV Patient and Society” on August 23.
Shanthi Noronha, the project coordinator at Deepa Jyothi Foundation, Udupi was the resource person. On this occasion, she spoke about the causes, symptoms and preventive measures of HIV and AIDS. She discussed at length the consequences of the disease on the individual, family and society at large.
Noronha advised the students to evolve a humanistic approach in dealing with people who are HIV-positive. The ‘Positives’ are in need of love and care and they must not be treated as untouchables. The stigma attached to the people living with HIV infection must be systematically solved by the citizens of the country. General awareness about the disease is more important among the youth, she emphasized. While sharing her experience as an HIV patient she answered the queries of the students.
The Principal Dr. Vincent Alva presided over the function. Chandrika, Sushma Dias, from the Department of English were present on the occasion. The program was compered by Reeshal of I BCom. Sunny Antony of I Bcom welcomed the gathering. Sania of I BCOM delivered a vote of thanks.
