Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial College celebrates K’taka Press Day

Mangaluru: A webinar on ‘News Paper Reading; Why and How?’ was organised by the Department of Journalism under Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial College on the occasion of Karnataka Press Day on July 1 Thursday at 10.30 am.

Addressing the webinar resource person of the event Srinivas Pejathaya, Editor of News Karnataka said, “Even though the newspaper reading habit has reduced among people, the statistics say more than 50% of adults read one or the other every day. Referring to the statistics of RNI he said,118239 newspapers are registered in India, and Anand Bazar Patrika is the largest circulated daily (March 31, 2018 ).

“Even after the introduction of mobile-friendly media people believe that reading the newspaper gives satisfaction. A set of newspapers recognized because of their writing skills. Readers are familiar with stylesheets of newspapers they prefer reading them. Newspapers give us information about jobs, current events and enhance our knowledge, he said.

He further said, “benefits of the reading newspaper are infinity. Reading habit improves vocabulary skills, expands understanding moreover news paper is considered as the authentic source of information.”

While explaining How to read newspapers he said, ” one must decide the purpose of reading newspaper. There are different newspapers and different sections which can be read to attain such a purpose. There are immense job opportunities for the students ahead. One must develop newspaper reading habits to improve knowledge and vocabulary,” he added. 

Dr. Sandhya Kaveri presided over the function. Pranamya B, Sujanya Avadhani, and other students were attended the webinar.
