Jayciana 2017 : SJCE and ATME College of Engg.hold marathon for a noble cause

Mysuru: Sri Jayachamarajendra college of Engineering (SJCE)as part of its annual cultural extravaganza ‘Jayciana’ on theme ‘Digital India’ and ATME College of Engineering as part of its cultural program ‘ATMEya 2017’ on theme ‘Amar Jawan’ conducted marathon run here on Sunday, April 23.

At SJCE, more than 500 participants took part in the 7.5km run for men and 5km run for women which was flagged off at SJCE premise and concluded at the same place. In the men’s section, GJ Chetan of Government First Grade College, Kuvempunagar stood first while Prashanth and B Prakash both from Alvas College, Moodabidri stood second and third respectively.In the women category BK Suprita of Alvas College stood first while Priyanka Gopi from Amrita Vidyalayam and MS Anita an employee stood second and third respectively.

For ATME run for ‘Amar Jawan’ more than 1000 participants took part in the 5km run. Major General Karumbaiah flagged off the race and called upon the participants to exhibit patriotism and love towards the country. The registration money collected through marathon race will be donated to the family members of two martyrs on April 27 at college premise.

Participants from various other organisations took part in the run along with those collegians. Cricketer NC Aiyappa, ATME chairman L Arun Kumar, ATME secretary K Shivashankar were also present.

Marathon runs gaining momentum in Cultural City

Marathon runs are being conducted on a regular basis in the city. Students, professionals, members of various organisations and even general public show keen interest and join the run as when the opportunity arises. Most run a minimum of five to six kms every day and some thrice in a week, to remain physically fit as well as contribute for a noble cause.
