Mangaluru: Mariyam Razana, a final year B.Sc student at Mangalore University has achieved a rare feat by becoming the first UG student in the history of Mangalore University to clear the GAT-B test.
Mariyam Razana has cleared the Graduate Aptitude Test- Biotechnology (GAT-B) 2020 with a National ranking of 68. Mariyam’s achievement has turned into a proud moment for her trainer at University College, Dr Siddaraju MN. He is the Assistant Professor of Botany and also the BOE Chairman of Biotechnology. He played a key role in the postponement of the Zoology examination on October 3rd which clashed with the GAT entrance exam schedule.
Jawaharlal Nehru University has offered Mariyam Razana a letter of admission. She wants to pursue Indian Forest Service (IFS) for her future.
GAT-B examination is an eligibility test conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad for admission to DBT-supported PG Programmes in Biotechnology in institutions across India. Based on the ranking, the participating institutions admit students as per their admission and selection process.
About the examination:
The examination is a Computer Based Test (CBT), with a duration of 180 minutes. Part A has 60 compulsory multiple-choice questions of the level of 10+2 subjects (science). Part B has multiple choice questions which require thinking and analysis at a bachelors student’s level. Candidates should attend at least 60 questions out of 100. There are negative marks for wrong answers.
Benefits:
All students admitted through GAT-B will be paid a stipend. It is Rs.5000 per month for M.Sc. in Biotechnology & Allied Areas, Rs. 7500 for M.Sc. in Agricultural Biotechnology and Rs. 12000 per month for MTech. /M.V.Sc. programs.
Raksha Bela, another final year B.Sc student who was also trained by Dr Siddaraju MN got selected for Summer Research Fellowship (SRF) in 2019 and worked in Hyderabad University for 2 months with a stipend of Rs.12500 per month.
