Mangaluru: Episode one of Career Guidance with Prof. Ronald Pinto on planning career was premiered on September 17.
The show by NewsKarnataka is powered by Loloya College, Bengaluru.
Brian Fernandes, Director of Spearhead Media Group hosted the show. In the beginning, he introduced Prof. Ronald Pinto who is the Director of the Institute for Individual Development, Mangaluru, and an accomplished and experienced career guidance counsellor.
Prof. Ronald Pinto explained the major difference between job and career. He said Job is one that considers only wages or about just making money, where a career also considers work satisfaction along with money. He suggested students to choose a career, not a job.
Explaining about the use of attending aptitude tests he said, “While choosing a career we cannot consider only our interest. We need to have some skills. An aptitude test will help us to realise our inherent strengths. Sometimes we students wish to be something but will not be able to qualify, as we fail to score enough marks. So it is better to think about the alternate careers as well, he suggested.
He suggested choosing professional courses after the 10th or 12th standard. The career choice should be based on aptitude, and employability. The family and economic background are also considerable factors. Following the same profession, as your parents will help you to be prepared for that particular field and you will be well aware of it, he expressed.
In the end he said, there is no best career but there are most adopted careers. Those who are good in Science and Mathematics should opt for Science streams and can choose Engineering or Medicine. Those who are good in Accounting and Human Relations can be Chartered Accountant or take up Masters in Business Administration. Even Arts streams have good career options such as Journalism, Psychology and English literature which will open doors for many employment opportunities as well, he opined.
