
Mangaluru: The Centre for Social Concern, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru conducted an awareness programme for the general public on ‘Solid waste Management’ in the Dongarakeri ward of the MCC on January 20. A total of 65 students from the department of BCA participated in this programme. Rajendra Kumar, representative of Dongarakeri ward, was present on this occasion.
The Centre for Social Concern Coordinator, Sharon along with Srinidhi, Junior Health Inspector of the ward, took the initiative of organising the programme. The students were guided by Shilpa Shetty and Prafulla, faculty members of the college. The students along with the staff members visited 120 homes in the community and spoke to people regarding the importance of managing household waste effectively. The students made the people aware about the need to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste.
The students were engaged in this session from 1 pm to 5 pm and were accepted warmly by the people who shared their worries and difficulties in managing the waste. Before this session, the students visited the Pachanady dumping yard and Vermicomposting plant and studied about the waste disposal procedure of the MCC.
The students were trained with a module of ‘problems and need of solid waste management’ in the college by the staff of the Centre for Social Concern. The multi-purpose workers of the MCC, under the leadership of Jayanthi, took the responsibility of leading the students to the various homes in the community.
