Mangaluru: “ArtBeat”, a component of the annual Aloysian Fest, was organised by the faculty of Arts on February 1 and 2 in the college campus. ArtBeat 2018 was themed “Grandeur–A Panorama of Heritage” and focused on the imperial history of India.
It boasted of a total of 15 competitions, namely – Ashvaghosha (Poetry Slam), Bitthipatram (Poster Making), Sidha Prasaran (Live News Reporting), Ekalanaty (Mono Act), Chitra Vimarshan (Film Review), Chayachitra (Photography), Sarvajna (Quiz), Ishtihaar Baazi (Mad Ad), Vaad Vivaad (Debate), Manovidnyanam (Psychology Case Analysis), Arthashastra (Budget Preparation), Khana Khazana (Cooking without Fire), Aap Ki Darbar (Mock Parliament), Nidhi Anvesanam (Treasure Hunt) and Suvastra (Fashion Show).
ArtBeat 2018 was formally inaugurated on February 1 in the presence of the staff coordinators Santosh Notagar and Deena D’Souza and student coordinators Nadeem Ahmed and Mervyn D’Silva. The theme for this year, “Grandeur – A Panorama of Heritage” was evident in the festoons and pillars that adorned the entrance of the Eric Mathias Hall, Maffei Block.
There were a total of 19 colleges that participated in the various competitions of the fest. The overall winner’s trophy was bagged by SDM College, Ujire and the runners-up by Alva’s College, Moodbidre.
The fest concluded with the valedictory and prize distribution for ArtBeat which was held at the Eric Mathias Hall at 11:00 AM. The chief guest for the programme was Dr. Na Damodar Shetty, a renowned Kannada poet, writer and critic and Dr. Alwyn D’Sa, Vice Principal, Administrative Block, St. Aloysius College, presided over the function.
“Wait not for another tick. What you have to do, do it fast”, said Dr. Na Damodar Shetty in his address to the gathering. He encouraged active participation of the students in extra-curricular activities and particularly, the importance of learning at least one art form, be it dance, theatre, song or art.
In his presidential address, Dr. Alwyn D’Sa lauded the hard work put into making the fest a memorable one, while instilling in the students the values of responsibility and team work. He urged the students to contribute their best to the field of Humanities in order to develop it further and use their given potential to achieve greater heights.
Dr. Vishanz Pinto, Dean, Faculty of Arts; Santhosh Notagar and Deena D’Souza, Coordinators, ArtBeat 2018 along with Mervyn D’Silva and Nadeem Ahmed, ArtBeat Student Coordinators were also present on the dais.
